Avvolta nel silenzio : Wrapped in Silence

Avvolta nel silenzio : Wrapped in Silence
Wrapped in Silence
Written during the period of “lockdown” following the pandemic, two and a half years on this lyric wishes to serve as a warning: to urge prudence, because COVID-19 is still, alas, lying in wait. The memory of those nightmarish moments is still vivid and fresh—yet it was no mere nightmare. And now, as we try to return to a certain normality…
Wrapped in Silence
Adored, my Beloved,
you are still asleep,
wrapped and immersed
in a silence that does not suit you.
You, a little coarse,
talkative,
yet always fascinating,
with your shapes
well displayed,
for every gaze
of those who watch and admire you,
you conquer them all.
Soon you will awaken
without any sound,
without the dove’s flight,
without the thunderous burst of the cart,
with no one wandering
through the alleys of the center.
Do not be sad,
beloved Florence.
Remember: you are to Italy
as the heart is to the body.
Awake then, and may the blooming Lily,
under the rays of the rising Sun,
blossom and spread once more
love and hope
in the hearts of the people.
