Icona è un termine che deriva dal greco eicon=immagine. Da Esso, ne deriva un altro: “Iconognosia, mezzo ascetico di primaria importanza, ovvero la conoscenza dell’immagine per scopi di elevazione spirituale e di incontro con la Divinità.

L’icona racchiude simboli e scene dipinti a colori
scelti secondo le leggi del colore e dei suoi effetti sulla coscienza. È in certo qual modo ciò che in India si chiama “Mandala”, ossia diagramma di meditazione. L’icona si
può considerare un castello di meditazione, un cerchio magico, un mezzo potente sul quale fissare lo sguardo fisico e l’occhio della mente per isolarsi dal mondo profano ed entrare nel mondo sacro.

Le immagini
divengono “sostegni” alla meditazione”.* 

L’Arte dell’Iconografia è un metodo diretto per sperimentare ciò che ho riportato nelle citazioni. Non solo, c’è molto, ma molto di più che aspetta solo di essere scoperto. E’ come se ci mettessimo davanti ad uno specchio… Non crediate che non siamo portati al disegno e alla pittura. Allo stato latente e in potenza, siamo tutti artisti perché creati a immagine e somiglianza del Supremo Artista. “Riecheggiando la filosofia greca, Seneca (Ep. 65,3) dice che omnis ars est imitatio naturae.

Dante sostiene che l’artista è a Dio quasi nepote
(Inf.11,105).”**

L’arte non è un dono per pochi, ma un richiamo silenzioso che attende chiunque abbia il coraggio di ascoltarlo.”

Questa lirica, ispirata dall’Icona originale dell’artista triestina Carolina Franza, l’ho scritta il 2 novembre 2019.

Icon is a term that derives from the Greek eikon = image. From it comes another term: “Iconognosia”, an ascetic means of primary importance, that is, the knowledge of the image for the purpose of spiritual elevation and encounter with the Divinity.

The icon encloses symbols and scenes painted with colors chosen according to the laws of color and its effects on consciousness. It is, in a certain sense, what in India is called a “Mandala,” meaning a meditation diagram. The icon can be considered a castle of meditation, a magic circle, a powerful tool on which to fix both the physical gaze and the eye of the mind, to detach oneself from the profane world and enter the sacred world.

The art of iconography is a direct method to experience what I have reported in the quotations. But not only that—there is much, much more that is simply waiting to be discovered. It is as if we were standing in front of a mirror…
Do not believe that we are not inclined toward drawing and painting. Latently and potentially, we are all artists, because we are created in the image and likeness of the Supreme Artist.
